Shining a Spotlight on Nissan Safety Systems
Nissan has long been known for its innovative style and cutting-edge performance. Now you can throw top of the line safety into the mix as well.
Below we spotlight three of Nissan’s latest safety systems to shine a light on how the manufacturer is putting you first.
Available Nissan Safety Systems
Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection
If your Nissan senses a front-end collision with another vehicle or pedestrian and the driver does not react in time, the car will begin braking on its own. The result is an avoided collision or at the very least a reduced impact.
This technology works by utilizing a radar sensor on the front of the car to measure the distance between it and the vehicle in front of it. Pedestrians are detected with a camera located behind the windshield. When that distance decreases at a dangerous rate, the driver is first warned with a visual indicator on the dashboard followed by an audible alert. If no action is taken, the car takes over and the brakes are applied.
This safety system is beneficial when the vehicle in front rapidly applies its brakes or a hard-to-see pedestrian comes into the path of the vehicle.
Intelligent Lane Intervention
Intelligent Lane Intervention alerts the driver if the car begins to leave its designated driving lane without signaling and gently applies the brakes to prevent it from doing so.
This safety system uses a camera in the upper portion of the windshield to identify the white or yellow lane markings on the road. If the car drifts too close to those lines, a flashing light is displayed on the dashboard while an audible warning chime is played. Brakes are gently applied to each wheel to help return the vehicle to the center of its lane.
This technology assists drowsy or distracted drivers or when driving under dark or difficult conditions.
Intelligent Blind Spot Intervention
Intelligent Blind Spot Intervention helps drivers avoid collisions with vehicles in their blind spots.
The system works by using a radar sensor to detect vehicles in the blind spot of an adjacent lane and illuminating an indicator light and sounding a chime to warn the driver of the vehicle’s presence. Should the driver of the Nissan begin to merge in the direction of the adjacent vehicle, the brakes will be applied to help avoid an accident.
This safety system is beneficial on high-volume freeways and for drivers who may have their blind spots further disrupted by cargo.
